In a statement last Thursday, Trump said: “In the face of this national security, public safety and public health crisis, Texas correctly invoked the Invasion Clause of the Constitution and must receive full support to repel the invasion.” He encouraged states to send their guards to Texas “to stop illegals from coming in and remove them back across the border,” defending the steps taken by Texas authorities to protect safety, security and sovereignty.

The Texas National Guard on Tuesday appeared to disregard a Supreme Court ruling that allowed the removal of barbed wire barriers, continuing construction along the border. Governor Abbott justified his decision by criticizing President Biden for failing to enforce immigration laws and citing the state’s constitutional authority to defend itself against invasion.
Trump’s statement came as Republican governors in several states supported Abbott in his standoff against the administration’s decision to allow the barriers to be removed. Trump said that if he were president, he would work with Governor Abbott and other border states to stop the invasion, seal the border and begin the largest domestic deportation operation in history. He criticized Biden for “aiding and abetting” the migration surge, claiming he tied Abbott’s hands, allowing the invasion to continue unchecked.
