A UK bride-to-be has sparked widespread debate online after revealing that one of her bridesmaids requested to wear a white dress to her wedding. Chloe Cotterell, who shared the story on TikTok, explained that she had offered her ten bridesmaids a palette of six shades of pink to choose from for their dresses, with no budget restrictions. However, one bridesmaid, referred to as “Natalie”, privately asked a dress assistant if she could try on a white gown instead.

Chloe, visibly shocked by the request, said she was left “speechless” and turned to her TikTok followers for advice on how to handle the situation. The video has since gone viral, amassing over 648,000 views and hundreds of comments. Many viewers suggested that Chloe should uninvite Natalie from the wedding altogether, with one commenter bluntly stating, “So you’ve nine bridesmaids now?”

The incident took place during a dress-fitting session at a bridal shop Chloe had rented for “hundreds of pounds.” She explained that Natalie, her friend since the age of three, knew her expectations and was fully aware that white was reserved for the bride. Chloe added that Natalie is not engaged and isn’t shopping for her own wedding dress, dismissing the notion that it could have been a misunderstanding or a joke.

Despite being confronted, Natalie reportedly stood by her request, saying she wanted to “stand out” among the other bridesmaids. Chloe noted that Natalie is neither the maid of honour nor the lead bridesmaid, making the demand even more perplexing.

The situation has reignited the ongoing discussion around wedding etiquette, particularly the unspoken rule that only the bride should wear white. A sidebar on the article even outlines traditional guest attire guidelines, reinforcing that wearing white is a major faux pas unless you’re the bride.

The overwhelming consensus among Chloe’s followers is that Natalie’s request was inappropriate and disrespectful. Many urged Chloe to stick to her original plan and consider removing Natalie from the bridal party if she refuses to comply with the dress code.
